While I’ve been searching and reading on the web, I’ve come across quite a few recipes for items that are normally bought at the store. In my experience, homemade is always a tastier and better for you alternative so I’m listing out the recipes I’ve found!
- Homemade Oreos from My Baking Addiction
- Homemade Poptarts from Heavenly Homemakers
- Amazing Spiced Chai Concentrate (like the Tazo concentrate from Starbucks)
- Ranch Dressing substitute from Home Ec 101
- Homemade Instant Oatmeal from Life as Mom
- Homemade Vanilla Coffee Cream from me!
- Homemade Bisquick mix
- Homemade Fruit Leather from Keeper of the Home
- Homemade Mayonnaise from Just Hungry
Have you come across any other recipes I could add to the list?

Hey, thank you for including the Ranch Mix in your list.

A note on instant oatmeal – you can just take regular quick oats, put some in a bowl and add boiling water. Voila – instant oatmeal. We do this every morning, and add things like frozen blueberries or strawberries (picked locally in season and frozen), or raisins and cinnamon, apple chunks, or anything else that strikes our fancy. No need to add salt or powdered milk, or to prepare a whole bunch of plastic bags ahead of time. Very frugal, too, much cheaper than instant oatmeal or boxed cereal. Also much less packaging, which helps the earth.

Great ideas Robin! I love the idea of less packaging…I hate using more bags then I have to.

Robin, we do the same thing every morning too! A big kettle full of water for coffee and oatmeal.
