This is quite the nifty trick I found n New Nostalgia!  Hull strawberries using a straw!

    Fruit flies… UGH! I use a small glass with a 1/4 cup of vinegar, 1/4 cup of apple juice, and a couple drops of dish washing soap. Set around the kitchen or fruit bowl, and they will fly into it from the scent, and drown when the soap washes the wax off their little pesky bodies. I’ve used this method for years!
