10 Ways Kids Can Make Money This Summer:

If your child is not yet old enough for a typical part time job but mature and responsible enough for making money, there are plenty of ways they can get started! This summer, they can supplement their allowance, tuck money into savings, or build up their comic book collection.

Some ideas I have gathered are traditional money makers and others are new needs in this modern busy world we live in.

Your little entrepreneur is sure to find something in this list of 10 ideas they can do this summer to make money! These are fantastic ways to teach responsibility, money management, and many other life skills in a real life setting.

Set Up a Lemonade Stand

The good old stand by money maker of yesterday can still be a great operation now to draw in kids and adults alike . A sweet and simple lemonade stand is a good way to teach your child some money making skills, a new recipe, persistence, marketing, and more. Set them up at the end of the driveway or a local park.

Making Crafts

Kids who like to make anything like duct tape wallets, friendship bracelets, watercolor paintings, doll clothes, pot holders, necklaces, etc.. can turn it into a little business to build up their funds. They can be sold to friends, family, and neighbors or even setup on an Etsy storefront, brought to craft shows or similar venues.

Try Craftsy!

If you’re looking for some craft ideas, try a Craftsy membership for only $2.49 your first year! There are a whole ton of craft videos you can watch!

Being a Babysitter/mother’s helper

If your child is old enough they can advertise for independent babysitting but even younger children, probably at least 8 or 9, who enjoy younger children can be a mothers helper keeping the kids occupied, making lunch, and playing with the children while mom does other tasks.

By Mowing/Pulling Weeds

Children make fantastic helpers in the yard and no doubt you have a neighbor or two who can use a little help with the mowing or pulling weeds from the flower bed. Since growing season is in the summer but many people still have to work they extra hand is appreciated.

Bring in Mail/Newspapers/Water Plants

Summer is prime vacation time and people are often looking for someone to bring in the mail, gather newspapers, and water the plants while they are gone and this is a great job for kids to get them started on responsibility and money making. You can accompany younger children and let older children go on their own.

Pooper Scooper

Those with dogs in fenced in yards frequently need to clear it all out, and it’s a job no one likes. But turning it into a money maker is a win win for both sides. Invest in bags and a long handled scoop (that your child can pay back in payments) and let them give a hand while filling their pockets.

Having a Yard Sale

When I can make money AND clean out the clutter it is a very good day indeed. Enlist the kids help sorting out knick knacks as well as clothes and toys no longer wanted/needed and have a yard sale. Let them do the majority of the work including setup, taking money, and handling customers.

Washing cars

Double duty jobs are the best! Kids can cool off and have fun while earning cash for movies, toys, and more. Car washing is a need and it seems especially during the summer when bugs, dust, and pollen are at a high! They can make signs, pass out fliers, and offer deals to get the word of mouth going around the neighborhood.

Pet sitting/Walking Dogs

While everyone is vacationing without their pets a great need is someone to come several times a day to walk and play with the dogs, clean kitty litter, feed fish, and similar tasks or while they are at work instead of paying big bucks for a doggie daycare.

Starting seeds

If your child has a green thumb (or wants to find theirs) you can have them start seeds or make cuttings for plants and sell them. Many people just don’t have the time and getting a hold of organic plants without pesticides can be difficult. Serve a need and make money by starting butterfly plants and veggies to sell in the neighborhood. You can also advertise on local Facebook groups (meeting in public place of course!)

How to sell unwanted items online

Something I like to do on a semi regular basis, is to declutter the stuff in our home that is not needed anymore. Although there always seems to be some sort of mess around these parts, extra clutter drives me crazy. But before I haul everything off to the thrift store, I set aside anything I think I could sell online; it’s always nice to earn bit of extra spending money!

While I’m a fan of the traditional garage sale, selling some of our old things online is really gaining popularity in my books. I’ve found it to be less work and I tend to make more money than if I were to sell the items in a garage sale.

I’ve been dabbling a fair bit with some local Facebook Buy & Sell sites, so that’s where I have most of my experience. But Craigslist and Kijiji are also great free options for selling your stuff online. Although, I’ve found that small items typically don’t sell well with Craigslist and Kijiji so that’s why I’ve been sticking with these Buy & Sell Facebook groups. Ebay is also a great option is you have brand name items and collector items to sell.

Here are some tips on how to sell unwanted items online through Craigslist/Kijiji, Facebook and eBay:

Research

Spend some time taking a look at items similar to what you want to sell to get an idea of what you should price your item at. It might also be a good idea to research some of the details you think buyers might want to know. (ie: dimensions, special features…etc.)

Price Your Item Well

If you simply want to get rid of stuff quickly, price your stuff quite low. If earning a bit of money is your goal, price your items by what you see similar items selling for. Quite often I’ll price something a bit higher then what I’m willing to take because it’ll be a bonus if someone does purchase it at my asking price. But I know people like to barter to get a lower price. They’ll feel like they’re getting a deal and I’m happy I was able to earn some decent spending money!

Take Good Photos

Having good, clear photos with your item is fairly crucial if you want to sell it quickly. Here are some basic tips for taking a good picture:

Find good lighting. Try to take your pictures in natural light. In a dark room, the photo won’t show clearly, and artificial light can change the color of the item.

Clean the item. Make sure you give the item a good wipe down or wash to show off the condition.

Create a clear background. Place the item in an area of your home or yard that is free of clutter. You want to make it clear what you’re selling so don’t let any other distracting items show up in the photo.

Take several shots. Take at least one shot from every angle.

Choose the Right Category for your Item

To make your item easy to find, you’ll want to make sure you choose the right category to list your item under. After all, no one is going to look for a car in the Housing category!

Write a Clear Headline

In the headline, I like to include what it is and the price. For example: Fisher Price Jumparoo, $40. Having a good headline is important because it’s the first thing people see about your ad and it’s how buyers search for items they want.

Write a Good Description

In your description, you’ll want to include:

What you’re selling. Start the ad by explaining what your item is.

Item’s condition. Briefly explain the condition of the item. Make a note of any damages.

Technical details. Include as many technical details as you can about the item.

Price. Don’t forget to state the price again. Be sure to include whether you’re firm in your price or willing to take a best offer.

Your contact information. At the bottom of your ad, note your preferred method of contact.

Be Safe

Once you have your ad up and running, and you have your buyer, you’ll want to meet in a safe place. If I’m home alone, I like to arrange a public place for item pick-up. I try to plan it with an errand I’m already running to save running around all over town. (This one doesn’t really apply to items you sell though eBay since you’re shipping the items to the mailing address your buyer provided.)

The Best time to use:

Craigslist/Kijiji

Craigslist and Kijiji are great options for selling furniture, toys, vehicles and household items. My husband has had great success selling a couple of vehicles. I have had success with selling some furniture we no longer need. It’s free to list your items, so there really isn’t any reason not to try a handful of items!

eBay

eBay is the best option for selling popular brand name items such as Coach, Kate Spade and the like that are in excellent condition. High value collector items or hard to find items are also a great match for eBay. It’s free to list items on eBay but you are required to pay a commission if your item sells.

Facebook Buy & Sell Groups

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of the Facebook buy & sell groups. After all, these Facebook groups are easy to use and are free to join and list. I’ve had great success selling baby items, household stuff, outerwear and books. Search for a local buy & sell group, then ask to join. I’m fairly certain that these groups are in almost every city these days. You’ll want to be sure to read the rules of each group so you don’t end up with your listings being deleted by the administrators. (They set rules to cut down on some of the clutter that posting many items by so many people can cause.)

I’ve created, what I hope will be useful, a Stuff For Sale printable that you can use to keep track of your items as you sell them. Because I use Facebook groups mostly, that’s how I structured this printable:

{Get your Stuff for Sale Printable here}

7 Ways to Earn More Money

While spending less is often the best thing to do financially, sometimes it’s good to earn more money if it means it will push you closer to your financial dreams faster.

But before you get excited about the idea of earning more money, it’s important to make sure you manage the money you already have well. If you’re financially strapped, there’s no point in earning extra cash if you’re just going to spend more money for short term satisfaction. Focus on getting a monthly budget figured out and learn how to maximize the money you already have before you go out and try to make more money.

Once you have that out of the way, you can read these ideas to help you earn extra money:

Earn money from your hobbies

I’m sure many of you have a hobby that you enjoy and are quite good at! Why not turn that hobby into extra income? Here are some ideas to get you thinking:

Teach coupon classes

Sell your photos if you’re into photography

Teach art classes, either privately or at a local craft store

Sell your work at craft shows or on etsy

Design pieces on commission

Here are 7 Ways to Earn More Money." />

Sell things you no longer need

Clear up some space in your home by selling things you no longer need or care for. Have a garage sale or try selling items on Kijiji, Craigslist, or eBay. Or give a Buy & Sell group on Facebook a try.

Rent out your space

If your home has an extra bedroom or empty space, you could become a landlord. Students and recent graduates are often especially eager for affordable and small spaces to call “home”. Your extra garage space might also be perfect for someone needing to store their collector car, for example.

Try a paper route

Earn a bit of extra money by doing a paper route. Get some fresh air and exercise while you’re at it!

Offer to babysit

Give some friends or even neighborhood families some time away from the kids so they can go on a date or get errands done by offering your services as a babysitter.

Start a part-time business

If you have a bit of time to devote to money making, why not consider starting a part-time business from home? You could try these ideas on for size:

Start a blog

Dog walking

Tutoring

Baking/Meal provider

Music lessons

Errand runner

Personal shopper

Cleaning

Graphic design work

Mow neighborhood lawns/shovel snow

Life/Business Coaching – are people always asking your advice on a particular subject? Consider charging a fee for your advice.

Teach English at Home with VIPKID

If you have a Bachelor’s degree from a US or Canadian University as well as experience with children (such as: teaching, mentoring, coaching, tutoring, babysitting, etc.) you could possibly earn up to $22/hour (USD) teaching online with VIPKID. VIPKID needs thousands of work-from-home teacher’s to teach English online to kids in China. This is an amazing work-from-home opportunity – and don’t worry, you do not need to know any foreign language or have formal teaching experience. Find all the details here.

All in all, get creative or meet a need you see around you to earn a bit of extra money you can put towards reaching your financial goals!

Cleaning out your garage can not only give you more space in your home, but can also net you some cash in your pocket! Want to know more? Take a look below at these 5 ways to make money by cleaning out your garage, I’m sure you’ll find something you can sell!

5 Ways to Make Money By Cleaning Out Your Garage:

1. Sell your old/unused tools.

Are you a tool hoarder? Tools have excellent resale value. Sell your usable power tools Kijiji, Craigslist, Facebook Buy & Sell groups or place an ad in the local paper. Older tools might be valuable to collectors, so do your research on them and see if they might be worth anything. You typically need just one of each tool, so part with any extras to make some quick cash.

2. Scrap that metal.

Is your garage full of metal pieces? If so, you can scrap them for cash. Old appliances, fencing, old copper, brass, or even aluminum are all worth cash at a local metal recycling center. You don’t even need to clean the pieces, just haul them to the center, have them weighed, and collect your cash.

3. Sell your old bikes.

Bikes both old and new can find a new home on Kijiji, Craigslist, ebay, or your local paper/garage sale site. Collectors are always looking for bike parts and will be willing to take the old bikes off your hands, while college students are always looking for used bikes they can snag for a song. If you have any bikes either old or new, broken or functional, sell them for cash.

4. Hold an odds and ends garage sale.

Get rid of the random clutter with a garage or yard sale. Advertise your sale for free in Facebook Buy & Sell groups as well as sites like Kijiji or Craigslist. Price your items to sell, create a neat and organized display, and you are sure to not only pull in some cash but create some extra space in your garage as well. Just haul out those items, give them a good dusting, and stick a tag on them. It’s that easy!

5. Donate for a tax write off.

Remember, you can get a tax deduction for any donations you make to not for profit agencies. If you have functional items such as toys, hoses, lawn tools, appliances, bikes, wagons, etc. then why not donate them? You will get a receipt for your donation and you will be able to write the amount off on next year’s taxes. That’s like cash in the pocket!

Don’t deal with that cluttered garage any longer. Instead, give these tips for finding money in your own garage a try and you will not only make space, but make some money as well.

How to Earn Money from your Garden

Odds are, when you started your garden you were not thinking about how you could earn money from it. Over time you may have seen a bit of potential and started to think about how you could make money from your garden. Even a small thriving garden can earn a bit of extra money. If you are skilled or have plenty of space you can earn even more.

Today, I’d love to outline some ways that you can Earn Money from your Garden.

Sell extra produce

Often, the first issue that makes you think about how you could earn money from your garden is an overabundance of produce. You may be wondering just how you could ever use up that many tomatoes. Selling that extra produce is a great way to earn some cash and help save someone else some money. First, offering the produce for sale to friends and family will definitely help you reduce your overabundance. If you still have produce leftover, post a sign in front of your yard advertising produce for sale. You may have many neighbors stopping by!

Selling canned goods

Check your Province or city’s food laws to see if you can earn money from your garden by canning extra produce and selling the jars. Selling homemade jams, jellies, and other canned goods just might be the answer for you. Due to law, your sales are often limited to a few thousand a year, but that’s perfect for using up the extra food from your garden. Homemade canned jams and jellies make great gifts around the holidays and can end up selling very well.

Sell plants

Are you a whiz at getting seeds to sprout into strong thriving seedlings? Do you have plants in your garden or pots that need to be thinned out? Selling plants to other gardeners in your neighborhood is a great way to earn extra money from your garden. If you do not have plants to sell how about seeds? Cuttings from that prize plant your neighbors all love?

Teaching others gardening skills

Have you been gardening for years and have a beautiful thriving garden that neighbors admire? Why not offer to teach gardening classes in your home garden or even at the local library for a small fee? Depending on local interest, you can earn a good bit of money running classes on the topics of caring for plants, propagating cuttings, and keeping plants alive for the not so green thumbs. Often a bit of education is all that stands in the way of a thriving garden. Many parents are looking for summer activities for their children and learning to garden could be a great use of time and energy.

The important part of making money with your garden is to not allow the focus on earning to take the joy out of your garden. If you lose the joy that made your garden thrive in the first place, your garden will suffer. So start out small, have fun, and make the most of the opportunities that come your way.

Have you found yourself short on cash? Are you looking for quick ways to make a buck or two? Whatever the case or circumstance may be, there are plenty of legit ways to make some fast cash. Take a peek below at 7 items you can sell for cash right now, so you can have the money you need for your next utility payment, car payment, or whatever the case may be!

7 Items you Can Sell for Cash Right Now

1. Scrap jewelry.

Do you have broken or unused gold and silver jewelry? Gather it up and take it to your local jewelry store. Most stores will weigh it for you and make you a cash offer for it. It doesn’t matter if it is broken or unsightly, they just want it for scrap. So gather up that jewelry and see if you can get some cash for it!

2. Scrap metal.

Scrap yards pay for all sorts of metals these days. You can take your empty soda cans; scrap copper, aluminum, even silver flatware. They will weigh it and make you an offer, and you not only free up some space at home, but gather some cash as well. See what scrap metal you may have in the garage or shed that you can scrap and trade for cash.

3. DVDs, Video Games

Are you done watching some of the DVD’s in your collection? Are you tired of some of your video games? Pawn shops take both of these items and will offer you cash. You can even sell these items online via Ebay or Craigslist, or take them to a resale shop that specializes in their sale.

4. Old toys.

Many old toys are worth cash these days. Old dolls, Barbies, doll clothing, old board games, old metal trucks, cars, and a host of other toy items are worth cash. Sell these items to a collector via Ebay or Craigslist, or you can even take them to an antique shop to see if anyone is willing to make you an offer on them.

5. Old paper items.

Would you believe that old postcards, old photos, magazines, cookbooks, maps, and other paper items are worth cash? Collectors go crazy over these items and are always on the prowl for them. Sell these items to a collector via Ebay or Craigslist, or you can even take them to an antique shop to see if anyone is willing to make you an offer on them.

6. Designer accessories.

Do you have designer shoes, bags, belts, sunglasses, and other accessories? If so, savvy shoppers are looking for them! Sell these items on Ebay or Craigslist and see if you can’t get a few bucks for them. It will help if they are in gently used condition and accompanied with any paperwork that authenticates them.

7. Electronics.

You may have been to direct sales parties, which are the ones such as Scentsy, Avon, Stampin’ Up, Thirty One, Young Living and other purchase from home products. You may have thought about being a brand rep for these products yourself, so you can earn a little extra cash on the side or just pay off a few extra bills. While direct sales are a great way to make some extra cash, it isn’t for everyone. Here’s what you need to know to determine if direct sales are right for you!

1. You have to be motivated.

With direct sales, you need to go out and find your clients, and they may not just fall into your lap. Make sure you have the motivation to get out and do a little door knocking per say, so you can start your own customer base and start getting some sales.

2. You have to be thick skinned.

When you are in any kind of sales, you may hear the words NO or NOT INTERESTED. You have to be thick skinned and realize these are not personal attacks, this is just a person who is not interested and you can move on and use your energy elsewhere.

3. You have to put in evening hours.

Most parties for direct sales products happen in the evening hours when the party host is off work for the day. If you want to do home parties, be prepared to work evenings and attend weekend parties as well as this is generally the time that’s convenient for most.

4. Your income may fluctuate.

Around the holidays you may have amazing sales, but those sales may drop off during the deep winter or deep summer months. While the extra income is fun, you don’t want to have to rely solely on it as it can fluctuate.

5. You are in charge of looking after your own taxes.

In most cases of direct sales, the company does not deduct your income taxes for you. Check with a local accountant to make sure you have the correct paperwork on file to look after your own taxes and keep your business legal.

6. You may need money out of pocket to start.

Most direct sales companies require the sales rep to come out of pocket for their starter kit. You may need to purchase your own catalogs, samples, and other products with your own money as well. If you’re going into direct sales, be prepared to spend your own money to get set up.

7. Know that fads come and go.

Before diving into any direct sales company, remember that fads come and go. What’s hot today may not be hot tomorrow. Be sure you are investing in a company that offers some long term stability and a quality product that people are sure to come back for.

So is direct sales right for you? If you think so, start researching companies that you believe in and have purchased from yourself. You might find that you can make some extra money while doing something you really love!

Did you know you could be throwing away money each month, right into your own trash can? There are many items tossed into trash cans each month that are worth cash and can help put a little extra change into your pocket. Take a look below at 6 ways to turn your trash into cash and make a little money off of items you would normally throw away or recycle.

6 Ways to Turn Your Trash into Cash

1. Wine corks.

Wine corks have become quite popular with crafters lately. If you drink wine, set your wine corks aside. You can sell them on eBay or Etsy, where crafters are paying around .25 and up per cork. If you host a party or have been collecting corks over time, you could enjoy a real pay day!

2. Aluminum.

Don’t pitch aluminum cans. They’re worth cash! Take it to your nearest recycling center where they will count your cans and pay you the going rate. It is a quick way to get rid of the aluminum and make some cash in the process. With the money I get from bringing in our old cans, I like to put the balance into my daughter’s piggy bank.

3. Magazines.

Back issues of magazines are quite popular on eBay. If you have magazine subscriptions, sell your back issues on eBay to buyers in need. Niche topics are especially hot (crafting, hobby, fashion) and bring in a great price. So don’t toss those old magazines, sell them.

Related: 10 Uses for Old Magazines.

4. Newspapers.

Don’t toss those old newspapers before checking them for coupons. When you toss coupons, it is like tossing money. Instead, check each page one more time and make sure there aren’t any savings you want to clip and take advantage of.

5. Glass bottles.

Glass bottles are another hot item with crafters. If you have glass bottles, especially colored glass, wine bottles, or decorative bottles, see about selling them first. Etsy or the hobby section on Craigslist or Facebook Buy & Sell groups are perfect for getting a few bucks per bottle. At-home wine makers are also always looking for wine bottles!

6. Scrap metal.

Most things that are metal (including cars, bikes, appliances, cans, file cabinets, BBQ grills, etc.) can be recycled for cash. To find out how much you can make, google “Scrap Metal Pickup” for your local city to find someone that will pick up your scraps.

See how easy it can be to turn your own trash into cash? Keep these tips in mind and you can make a little money off of the items you normally just toss away or recycle. So, how much cash is lurking in your trash? Take a peek and see which items you can weed out and get a few dollars for.

Are you looking to make some money from home? If so, you might be cautious about all of the work from home opportunities out there for fear they may be scams. And while plenty of those do exist, you will find that there are a lot of legitimate ways to make money at home as well. Take a look below at 5 legitimate ways to make money at home so you can have extra cash on hand, pay down debt, or save up for that special purchase you have been eyeing.

5 Legitimate Ways to Make Money at Home

1. Write and publish eBooks.

Do you like to write and have knowledge on a certain subject? If so, write an ebook! You can use easy to use and navigate programs such as Kindle Direct Publishing (an Amazon company) to publish your books in just minutes. This is a great way to bring in a little extra cash flow each month. To get started, use a word processing program to type up, edit, and format the text, then transfer the text using the tools Kindle Direct Publishing provides.

2. Become a tutor.

Do you have a background in teaching? Or, perhaps you are just skilled at reading, writing, and math? Then advertise your skills as a tutor among friends and through social media. Tutors can make upwards of $20 an hour, more if you are skilled in junior high and high school skills. Set aside a space in your house for tutoring, or offer to tutor the child in their own home. You will need very little in the way of supplies (usually pencils, paper, will do the trick) and the child is sure to appreciate your help and support!

3. Become a pet or child sitter.

If you love children or animals, why not become a sitter? You can offer to provide services in your own home or the clients. Sitters for children can make upwards of $10 per hour, while the amount you can make as a pet sitter varies. Either way, you can make cash for doing what you already love. Advertise among friends, family, and social media to let others know you are looking to take on clients in these areas. Provide excellent care, and you are sure to have customers flocking to you.

4. Sell from home.

Direct sales are a great way to make money from home without a great deal of overhead involved. Some examples of items you can sell from home would include essential oils, candles, cosmetics, and jewelry. Visit the websites of Scentsy, Young Living, DoTerra, Avon, and other direct sale companies to see what opportunities may be available to you. You will find that these companies offer excellent commission, bonus opportunities, and even trips for your dedication to them.

5. Sell your stuff.

Use eBay, Etsy, Facebook, Kijiji, Craigslist or even Amazon to sell your gently used items. You can sell movies, music, furniture, clothing, accessories, even electronics and plants. If you are getting rid of it, chances are there is a market for it. Check out the sites mentioned to set up a seller account, take some great pics, write a thorough description, and in no time you will be selling your stuff online and making some real cash.

Bonus: Sign up with UserTesting

Get paid for reviewing websites or apps with UserTesting! They pay their testers $10 for every 15 minute website or app review you complete. Easy money!

Making money from home is possible. Give these legitimate ways to make money at home a try and see what you can achieve!

Saving and Making Money as a Stay At Home Mom

Being a stay at home mom isn’t always roses and sunshine. Sure, we love being able to raise our children but there are times things get stressful. Money is usually pretty tight when there is only one income. We are always looking for ways to save money or bring in a little extra money! This list should give you some tips on how you can be saving and making money as a stay at home mom.

Turn Your Hobby into a Business

Just because you’re at home taking care of the house doesn’t mean you can’t be a business woman at the same time. Think about your hobbies and skills and start a business out of it. Maybe you love to bake, sew or create graphics. Whatever it might be, try turning it into an online business. More and more stay at home moms are now starting businesses that they can run all while staying at home with their children.

Find a Work at Home Job (WAHJ)

There are several companies that will hire you to work from home. Some companies have a set time you have to work and others allow you to pick your own schedule. Working from home is a nice way to bring in some extra money and do it around your families schedule. Here are a few places that hire out of Canada.

Upwork

Indeed

Workana

Freelancer

If you’re just looking for coffee money I highly recommend joining Survey Junkie. If you want to do a few paid surveys for fun Survey Junkie is awesome for that.

For a full list of work at home jobs you can visit: Real Ways to Earn Money Online | Work at Home Jobs for Canadians.

Have Playdates

Paying for mommy & me classes or any other classes for socializing the little ones can become very expensive! Try setting up playdates with other moms. This is a great way to save on those expensive classes and you have a chance to bond with other women in your community. You can set up playdates at your local park, library or at your home.

Get a Membership

As stay at home moms we love getting out of the house from time to time. No-one wants to be cooped up in the house all day, every day. You might want to consider investing in a membership to a local zoo, water park or any other local entertainment. Having an annual membership means you always have something to do without any large expenses involved.

Swap Services

Being a stay at home mom isn’t always the easiest thing. There are times when you just want to have an afternoon to yourself or maybe you have an appointment and can’t bring your little one. Paying for daycare when you’re a stay at home mom is something just financially out of the question.

Look into swapping babysitting services with another stay at home mom. Maybe you can wash her children one day a week so she can have one day to relax or run errands and vice versa. This will help you save on those very expensive drop in daycare costs.

Clear out your closet and earn some cash by selling your unwanted clothing on consignment! Not only is selling on consignment a great way to earn some extra cash, you could essentially use the cash to purchase the clothing you really want! Maybe a guilt free solution to your shopping habits?

With almost every season, I find a small pile of clothes to bring in to a local consignment shop. It’s pretty exciting to stop by later in the year to pick up the cash I earned for items I would have otherwise simply donated.

Here are my tips to help you get the most money out of the items you bring to consignment:

Make sure your items are clean

Give your gently-worn clothes a wash to freshen them up and to get any stains out, you’ll have more luck selling items that are in great shape.

Make sure your items are ironed

Going along with my previous point, having clothes that are newly ironed will help your items sell for top dollar.

Make sure your items are current/in style

You will have the best luck selling more “current” clothing; nobody wants to wear your grandmother’s polyester pants!

Don’t hold on to something you know you won’t wear

The longer you hold on to an item you know you won’t wear, the less it will be worth when you decide to finally clear your closet.

Not only is consignment great for buying pieces for your wardrobe at affordable prices, it’s also a great way to part with some of your gently-worn clothes and make some money while you’re at it!
