The Best Cherry Pitter

cherries

Recently I shared a picture on Instagram of my cherry haul that I picked from a local orchard for $1.00 a pound. They’re delicious, juicy and big!  I only picked two buckets, before the heat of the day really got to me!  (Must.pick.more)

I wanted the cherries to eat fresh, but I also wanted to freeze a lot because I like to eat a bowl of frozen cherries before bed 😉

Well, frozen cherries are much more enjoyable to eat without pits so my Mom’s handy dandy cherry pitter is the best tool.  I don’t know the brand of the one my mom owns, but it looks exactly like the one pictured below:

It’s amazing. Just throw some cherries in the cup, then push down on the spring handle and voila! No pits! Even Sienna was having fun helping me.

The one I found pictured above is a Norpro deluxe cherry pitter and is available on Amazon.ca for $29.99. I think that’s a fair price for such a handy tool. I like to set it up on a cookie sheet then go to town because then I put the whole cookie sheet in the freezer.  Here are some details about the pitter:

  • Removes pits quickly without bruising or crushing cherries
  • Sturdy spring-loaded plunger
  • Light and easy to clean
  • Deal for canning, freezing, dehydrating and baking
  • Instructions included
