As I’ve mentioned before, February is fill the freezer month in anticipation of the new babe due to arrive next month. While I’ve compiled a list of meals to make, I’d love to know what others enjoy freezing (and eating)!
I’m Wondering: What are your favourite tried and true freezer meals? What are some things that always turn out and taste great after they’ve been frozen for a while?

Generally, things with high fat and low fiber will always survive freezing. Soups and sauces are good as well.
Curry lamb is excellent, doesn’t even change one bit after freezing. Using chicken thighs instead of chicken breasts helps keeping the texture when freezing. I also make bolognese sauce by the gallon.
It’s not a meal per se, but I make giant batch of caramelized onions when I have time, it adds so much flavor to any dish with mere spoonful. I also chop spring onions and freeze them. They wilt rapidly and I often use just 2 tablespoons at a time, usually in ramen. The heat from the soup unfreezes it, very handy.

Once it cools I will cut it into squares, wrap and freeze. Pop one info my lunch bag with some yogurt and I’ve got breakfast or a good snack packed.
Another play on an old recipe is Best of Bridge’s Marocca Chicken except I now make just the sauce and pour it on a bag of either Costco Italian Meatball or Ikea’s Meatballs. Make enough for tonight’s supper and one for the freezer.
I have a favorite chili recipe. I make big batch and portion it out. I make fresh french bread and thaw the chili and enjoy! I also make pie filling and keep uncooked pastry in the freezer so a fresh pie is an easy treat.
If I make a large pasta based casserole, I’ll freeze a couple of meals in some aluminum foil takeout containers from the dollar store. On the lid I’ll mark what it contains, instructions for reheating and the date it was frozen. I almost always have homemade bean and cheese burritos on hand plastic wrapped and in a ziploc bag.
I like to prepare big batches of home made soups, chicken cacciatore, spaghetti sauce, broccoli quiche, chili, cabbage rolls, cooked chicken for stir fries and sandwiches when we are on the run.
I also freeze a ton of local vegetables in the fall when the produce is local and it helps us to eat fresh foods in the thick of winter and saves time on preparing meals for the freezer.
