Sonja posted a question over at the Simply Frugal Facebook page that that I thought you could help her answer!
Hi everyone – I have a question regarding Costco toilet paper and paper towels. Has anyone done a cost comparison to see if both can be purchased elsewhere for cheaper than the Costco brand? Taking into consideration size of rolls etc? Thanks!!
So, do you think you can help Sonja out? 🙂
We have been buying Charmin at Costco for years. About a year ago I noticed that there are only 205 sheets per roll. At other stores there are 242 – 360 (+/-) sheets per roll. When on sale at Target or Safeway you probably get a better deal, but you need a calculator. Also note that Charmin is 2-ply, Kirkland is single.
At non-Costco stores Charmin has Mega rolls, 6 rolls are equal to 24 “regular” rolls — but the Mega rolls are only 242 sheets — meaning a regular roll is only 61 sheets — making “Mega” rolls one of the more absurd promotional claims I have ever heard.
Costco has best prices on TP even when not on sale. The rolls have more sheets per roll & are much larger, I have been cautioned by plumbing co that it is wonderful tp but is not good in my sewage lines as it doesn’t breakup & has caused 2 backups…………… needless to say we don’t use it anymore 😢
Realcanadian superstore and wallmart has same size pack for $19.99, cheaper thenCostco, Wallmar thas the best quality with less lint
If you calculate the price per square metre, Costco will always be cheaper for TP and PTs. A few months ago I thought I was getting a great deal at Superstore on Cashmere TP but when I did the math, Costco was still 20% cheaper at the regular price! A few years ago the sales were a lot better, but not anymore in my experience.
I buy my toilet paper, paper towels and Kleenex at costco when they are on special. Yes, when you buy them on special stock up you will not have to waist gas driving around to find the best deal. We are a family of four 1 pack lasts us minimum 6 months in our house.
Costco toilet paper and facial tissues and paper towels are not the best value. if you shop the sales at shoppers, superstore, walmart…. you can find better deals.
cheers
I buy my toilet paper, paper towels, and kleenex at Safeway when they are on sale…I get airmiles for these too…Might sometimes find a deal at Superstore.
