Here’s a question from Christine:
Here is what I would like to know: a friend of mine is trying to start a pantry or a stockpile so that she is not constantly out of everything and so that she can maybe save a bit of money.
What would you consider your must-haves in your pantry? What staples do you always have on hand?

also adding to the above lists:
Baking supplies (sugar, powdered sugar, flour, chocolate chips, chocolate baking squares, baking soda, baking powder, vanilla, cupcake cups, Bisquick, powdered milk, powdered buttermilk, salt, flaked coconut, nuts)
Small cache of sauces (worcestershire, HP sauce, Montreal steak sauce/spice) and jars of chopped garlic, Cheez Whiz,
Small cache of oils (sesame oil, peaut oil, large amount of vegetable oil, olive oil, etc.) and vinegars (cider, malt, balsamic, etc.)
Envelopes of gravy, taco seasoning, quick Bearnase, etc.)
Here are some of the other things that I have in my pantry that have not been mentioned yet, bottled water just in-case an unexpected boil water advisory is issued. Canned fruit, granola bars, salsa, spare condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayo, bbq sauce), Peanut butter, cereal and raisins. Nothing makes me happier then a stocked pantry!!
Sundried Tomatoes. Cannot live without them.
1. Chocolate and Coffee 🙂
2. All the ingredients for my family’s favourite comfort meals.
I am trying to change thinking about my pantry from ingredients to a complete meal. I also include my freezer as part of my “pantry”. That way I find that we use up the items faster, and I don’t have to worry about rotation or items going bad. Still a work in progress.
To add to these great pantry suggestions, I also try to keep the following on hand at all times:
Quinoa
Variety of dried spices and herbs
Dried fruit
Oats
I like to keep items that have different uses. A can of soup is a great lunch on a rainy day but you can easily turn that can of cream of mushroom into a tasty sauce for your chicken by adding some dried curry and herbs!
Good luck and have fun creating some yummy dishes!
My pantry staples:
Flour (all-purpose and whole wheat)
Sugars (brown, white, icing)
Salt
Baking powder
Baking soda
Rolled oats
Vanilla
Chocolate chips
Pasta noodles (spaghetti, macaroni, rotini)
Rice
Pasta sauce
Canned tuna
Canned tomatoes
Canned beans
Canned soup (tomato, cream of ___)
Broth (chicken, beef)
No-Yolk noodles, pasta, soups and sauces!
