I round up whatever apples I can get my hands on (from family, friends, and I always post an ad on a used site for free apples wanted – will pick!) and then make up a whole whack of apple sauce and can it. That way I can use in in baking and for snacks throughout the year, you can also can apple butter (super cooked down apple sauce) and apple pie filling. The only expense is the canning jars which once you have can be reused every year 🙂
I now live in Alberta and I miss my favourite apple store, in Nova Scotia. We would get bushels of apples. Cortland’s, Mac’s, it was wonderful the smell was fantastic. It is not the same here. And the price of apples are very expensive.
