Simply Clutter Free: Day 8

I always find the task of decluttering clothes somewhat overwhelming. Even if I haven’t worn something in a long time, I can usually find a reason to wear it once I’m deciding to declutter it 😛However, I’m sure that there are some clothes that I either don’t like, or that don’t/won’t fit properly. While I don’t think my declutter pile will be huge this time, I know I’ll have something to say goodbye too.

I will also be going through my daughters’ closets to put away too small clothes and donate stuff they don’t wear.

Here’s a post I wrote about 7 Ways to Pare Down Your Closet that may help you today. Also, I just recently finished reading the book Simple Happy Parenting and I feel like it made me look at our clothes in a whole new way (and other household items). You may enjoy it as well! Also, the show on Netflix, Tidying Up by Marie Kondo was really inspiring and helped me to understand the book a bit more!

Do you have a lot of clothes that will be going into the donate pile?

Simply Clutter Free: Day 7

Today’s Simply Clutter Free task: declutter the shoes!

This shouldn’t be too hard around here.  I don’t have many shoes and my husband has even less!  I think my struggle is going to be convincing my husband that he needs to finally throw away his old broken soccer cleats. (He thinks he might use them one day as backup shoes??) I think if it’s been a year and he hasn’t needed them, they’re gone. 😛

The problem with my shoes is that some of them only get worn a few times a year. I keep trying to convince myself they need to go, but then I end up wearing them again out of sympathy or something. I’m weird, I know.

As for my daughters’ shoes, the too small ones and out of season ones will go into storage or get donated.

How do you keep a handle on your shoe situation?

Simply Clutter Free: Day 6

While I don’t have a craft room, I do think that today’s activity of purging the craft supplies is going to take me more time then previous tasks! I seem to have bins all over the house 😛 I’ll be sorting through my daughters' craft supplies too. By the way, I love these storage boxes from London Drugs. They’re wonderful for holding all sorts of stuff!

We also have a few of these ALEX drawer units that we bought from IKEA when we moved into our new home. My husband created a desk out of them and I will show a picture on Instagram later today! We love this set up for the girls!

Here are some links to great craft organization tips:

What’s the craft supply situation like in your home? How much did you manage to purge? Maybe you’ll find some unfinished projects you can finish!

Simply Clutter Free: Day 5

I am officially diaper bag free so I'm down to one purse and a backpack every now and then when I have to tote my laptop along for coffee shop working.

As with life with kids, my purse is currently a catch all for snacks, toys, my wallet, appointment cards, shopping bags, garbage and so much more. Sometimes I have no idea I have so much in there!

Despite the mess that is in my purse, I think today's task should be quite easy to get finished. I actually just purchased a new backpack from Mountain Equipment Co-op on clearance so I actually have to add a few things to it! (Pens, notebook, ear buds...etc.)

While I don't have many tips for purse organization, I think a purse organizer from Amazon.ca like this would be wonderful:

There are many different styles and material!

So, how messy is your purse or bag?  How do you keep it organized?

Simply Clutter Free: Day 4

I am so ready to take down the Christmas decorations! Enough is enough of the festive “clutter” I say! 🙂

Even though this was our third Christmas in our “new” home, there was still a lot of stuff that didn’t get put out. Simply because I didn’t know where to put it, but also because I just didn’t want a lot of stuff out! I’ll definitely be doing some decluttering.

I keep everything (knick knacks, ornaments, garlands, stockings…etc.) in two large bins. Plus our Christmas tree that fits neatly into its own box. Two boxes is enough stuff for me! So, if I buy something new, something old has to leave!

While I do manage to cram everything into the bins, I did find some great Christmas organization ideas:

Do you have any Christmas organization tips?  When do you typically put away all your decorations?

Simply Clutter Free: Day 3

Today's task for the Simply Clutter Free Challenge is one that has needed some attention for quite some time in our home. Toys. We're going to work on organizing and purging the toy situation!

I'm going to try to involve the kids. Especially my oldest, but she tends to get attached to everything. I will give her some guidance and encourage her to really choose the toys she actually plays with and loves. I also think I will be purging some, but storing others so I can rotate them.

Download and print the organizing calendar here.
