Technical Difficulties!

Hi all!

My daughter and I are hitting the road today and making our way to Victoria for a few days!  While I’m planning on keeping a somewhat regular schedule, I’ve been having technical difficulties. Sheesh!  I’m currently not able to put pictures in each post and any post I schedule, doesn’t get published! Makes it hard to get work done for you!

Fingers crossed things will be back to normal soon.

In the mean time, have a great Wednesday!

“See” You Monday!

We’ve had an extremely full week filled with swimming lessons, soccer and out of town family visiting!  We’ve had sooo much fun! It was also really nice to lay a bit low on the website and just go with the flow. (Have naps even!)

Anyways, today is Friday and normally it’s a regular day at Simply Frugal, but this afternoon, we’re going on our first camping trip as a family of three!  So, rather than trying to get too much done, (food prep, trying to pack everything into our Honda…etc.) I’m going to forgo regular posting today.  I’m sorry!  Things should be back to normal Monday.

Rest assured, your favourite Links Worth Sharing post will be up as usual tomorrow morning.  In the mean time, have a fantastic weekend!

Sometimes It Is Enough

Lately I’ve been struggling with a few things. Mainly I’ve been struggling with the direction of Simply Frugal. (blogging is hard work!)  There were a few weeks (months) where I felt like there was more I needed to offer. The unfortunate thing was that I just wasn’t sure what!  I mean, there’s so much that I want Simply Frugal to be. A place to gather useful tips but also a place where you find encouragement.  I’ve struggled with finding my voice as I’ve hidden behind my computer screen. I’m a real person with her own battles, not unlike you, I’m sure.  I’m not an expert in any area of life, I can only speak from my own experiences of walking through struggles.

I often have voices telling me that I don’t have anything to offer, because all I see is how I really don’t have my stuff together.  I struggle with spending, wanting, fear of not being a good wife/mom and various other things. It’s tiring listening to that all the time.

Also, being in the blogging world and surrounded by social media, I see so many people that are going after big dreams and are hitting them. Me? I’m struggling to figure out exactly what my dreams are.  The struggle of feeling like there’s more I have to offer but keeping myself up at night trying to figure out what it is that I have to offer.

A few weeks ago, I had a heart to heart with my mom telling her about my current battles with Simply Frugal. At the time my husband was in job limbo (he wasn’t sure if he’d have one) and I was trying to figure out how to juggle the website with a child who doesn’t nap and doesn’t like to leave me alone for long.  My mom gave some very useful advice but you know what my main conclusion was?

Sometimes, it is Enough. I am enough.

Sometimes we have to let things go and let them play out how they’re going to play out. Rather than driving ourselves crazy trying to come up with a huge lofty goal that might ultimately flop in the end.  Sometimes we have to realize that the place where we’re currently at in life is exactly where we’re supposed to be, and that’s enough.

I am enough.

I am (mostly) the wife I need to be, the mom I need to be and the information provider for you that I need to be.

And you know what? While I do think it’s good to try harder at some things, I found freedom in realizing that sometimes it is enough.

What’s going on in the world that surrounds you does not have to dictate how you do your life. You are doing your life right, no matter how someone else makes you feel.

My Goals for 2015

flexible goals

I love this time of year.  The thought of a brand new year with brand new starts gets me giddy. While I realize that you can have brand new starts anytime of the year, the Christmas season is a great time of reflection and dreaming for me.

This is the first year that I have actually written down my goals for the year. I’ve had them in my head in the past, but of course, no specific plan so I never really achieved them.  The fact that I have never had concrete goals before is strange for me, since I’m such a list maker/routine lover/want things my way person. Maybe I’ve been afraid. 🙂

While I was perusing Pinterest and came across the quote in the picture above, I knew I had to remember those words.  I can be very stubborn about what I want so it’s a good reminder that I may have to switch up the way I’m going about achieving my goals. Not only so that I can actually achieve the goals because a better method came to mind, but so that I don’t antagonize those around me. (Husband, daughter…etc)

On that note, as I’ve referred to in a previous post, 2014 was a growing year for me personally and I felt like a big train wreck for the majority of it.  It was difficult for me to be a loving person.

So, if I don’t accomplish any of the goals I’ve listed below, I’ll be happy if I’m able to show kindness when it’s hard and laugh more with my family. That is what’s on my heart for 2015.

Marriage:

  • Speak loving and kind words
  • Once a month dates (even if it has to be a night at home)

Family:

  • Sit down with tea and read a story to Sienna once a day (Don’t worry, we do bedtime stories already)
  • Sign Sienna up for swimming lessons in the Spring
  • Sign Sienna up for gymnastics (maybe. We’re going to see how she’ll handle it closer to her third birthday. She’s a timid girl so she may not tolerate mom or dad not being with her.)
  • Go on a vacation via Train
  • Create photo book ‘yearbooks’ starting at 2012.

Myself:

  • Write in Choose Gratitude journal daily (As of today, I haven’t received this book in the mail yet)
  • Drink more water (at least 5 glasses a day)
  • Follow She Reads Truth bible plan
  • Read one book a month (any book. I found several times this year that I had to ‘escape’, so I read an entire book in a day on several occasions)

Business:

  • Plan at least one month in advance for the articles/content
  • Blog 52 Ways to Save each week (a new series!)
  • Possibly hire part-time help

Do you set goals?  I’d love it if could share with me in the comments!  Would you like to see a semi regular update on how I’m doing with my goals?

Merry Christmas!

What Would You LOVE to See?

I love this time of year. Not only is it nearly Christmas time, I’m also gearing up to do a bit of blog planning for 2015.  I love planning. I like to have a clear idea of what I will be writing about, when.  And guys? I failed miserably at my planning in 2014.  Miserably.  I felt more like a train wreck for the majority of the year. Not just the blog aspect but my entire life!  That is not fun.  So to commence my planning, I’ve determined that I need to write specific goals for all areas of my life. All year I’ve felt as though I’ve needed to be more intentional (as I wrote a bit about in this post), but gosh darn it, I couldn’t find the time to sit down to think.

This is where you come in.  I need your help with this one simple question: What would you LOVE to see on Simply Frugal in 2015?

By the way, for accountability sake, I will be writing more about my goals in the near future. Will you be setting any goals for 2015?
