Michelle has a question that she would love an answer to. Can you help her out?
Would you know where homeowners can obtain free tree seedlings in the Ottawa area? With Earth Day coming, I was hoping to find some free seedlings but could not find anything in this area. Thanks!
Perhaps readers not from the Ottawa area could also chime in with their ideas on where to obtain free tree seedlings anywhere in Canada?

If you want to wait until June 21 you can ask the Department of Canadian Heritage office in Ottawa about the “Watch it Grow, Canada” Initiative that is coordinated out of the Vancouver Canadian Heritage office every year. The “Watch it Grow, Canada” Initiative provides free seedings every year for the Celebrate Canada period, which is June 21 to July 1. The provincial Celebrate Canada Committees, which are administratively run by Canadian Heritage employees, order them from the Vancouver office.
How do I know this? I used to be the national coordinator in Vancouver for four years. The provincial/territorial Celebrate Canada Committee is in charge of ordering trees for their province so contact them. You can contact the Vancouver office but the coordinator hasn’t even started for the year.
A list of the regional offices are below

Thanks for your help!
I hope you were able to find some answers Michelle!
I believe you may be able to order some from (Ont Govt?) Forestry farm at St Williams in Norfolk County. Try Googling for info. Sorry I can’t help more
The city of Ottawa regularly gives away fully grown trees. I think registration is closed right now, but check back every season!

I would try farmers with bush lots. They will have seedlings growing naturally.
